CAR SALES DURING THE PANDEMIC

 

Car dealerships have been hit by the pandemic, but have been able to adapt to the ‘New Normal’ just like many other industries in the U.S. Many dealerships have chosen to exclusively sell virtually via Facetime, and other dealerships have offered valet services that deliver cars for test-drives, avoiding in-store visits. In many cases, this has actually streamlined the buying process in a way that takes less time and effort for both parties. Many customers reported satisfaction with the new car buying process and felt safe during their transactions.

Customer Shelley Kapitulik, recalls her recent experience with a home delivery test drive. “The car was obviously disinfected as the steering wheel, arm rests, shifter and nav screen had the streaks from cleaning wipes,” she recalls. “I called when I arrived back at the dealership, and stood outside speaking to the salesman, both wearing masks.”

Adapting to social distancing measures:

– Outdoor showings
– Showings by appointment only
– PPE worn by all staff and offered to customers
– Sanitizer stations placed at entrances
– Sanitizing surfaces before and after transactions
– Temperature checks for everyone that enters building
– Virtual car showings
– Delivery test drives
